Una nueva enfermedad causada por Colletotrichum chrysophilum afecta a plantaciones de Manzano en Girona

Abstract
En el año 2020 se detectaron los primeros daños en fruto asociados a la podredumbre ácida de la manzana,
del inglés apple bitter rot, en España. En concreto, la observación tuvo lugar en dos fincas de manzano
de la variedad Pink Lady ubicadas en Girona. En años posteriores, 2021 y 2022, se observaron daños
importantes en un número mayor de fincas de distintas variedades, incluyendo Pink Lady, Joya, Golden
y, en menor medida, Granny Smith. Además de los daños en fruto, en ocasiones también se observó una
defoliación severa, especialmente en la variedad Gala, compatible con los síntomas descritos en la bibliografía
como mancha foliar de Glomerella, del inglés Glomerella leaf spot. Esta sintomatología se ha
asociado a diferentes especies de Colletotrichum y a su fase sexual asociada, Glomerella. En este artículo
se describe la confección de una colección de aislados de Colletotrichum, así como su caracterización
e identificación, con el fin de determinar las especies de Colletotrichum asociadas a infecciones observadas
en manzano en el noreste español. Para ello, en 2020 y 2021 se recogieron aislados procedentes
de lesiones compatibles con las enfermedades objeto de estudio de varias zonas productoras de manzana
de Girona. Se caracterizaron morfológicamente un total de 94 aislados y, de estos, una selección
de 51 se sometió posteriormente al análisis molecular. La homogeneidad observada en la morfología
y en la secuenciación genética parcial de las regiones ITS, ACT, CAL, TUB-2, ApMAT y GAPDH mostró
una homología del 99-100% con la especie Colletotrichum chrysophilum. La ausencia de variabilidad
genética entre los aislados indicaría la existencia de una única especie causante de la enfermedad y de
un posible origen o introducción recientes en la región de estudio.
